The Carson City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 15,468 in 1970 to 55,274 in 2010. That was an increase of 257.3 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 295 in 1970 to 6,426 in 2010. That was an increase of 2078.3 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.9 percent to 11.6 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 221.9 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the primary source of added population in the first period, and NIM had that role in the two most recent periods, although that was negligible in the latest period.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the same pattern of factors of population change continued to apply.
